A Shomolu Grade `A’ Customary Court in Lagos has succeeded in reconciling a couple, Mr and Mrs Supo Olowookere, who had initiated divorce proceedings to terminate their 13-year-old marriage.
The petitioner, Olowookere, 41, had filed for divorce on Oct. 22, alleging that his wife, Monisola, was always engaging him in unprovoked fights.
Olowookere said that his wife usually abandoned him and the three children aged 12, nine and seven to go to the Sunday market to sell, instead of going to church with them.
Monisola, 33, a pepper seller, who consented to the dissolution, expressed regret for getting into the relationship.
The mother of three told the court that she had been responsible for the children’s upkeep, including their school fees.
But with the intervention of the court, presided over by Mrs Modupe Bajulaiye, the couple had been reconciled.
Bajulaiye advised them to be patient with one another at all times.
The petitioner expressed appreciation to the court for saving his marriage, saying his wife had turned a new leaf.
The respondent also testified that her husband had been supporting the family financially, saying “I love my husband now than before’’.
