Police arrest 18 MASSOB members
THE Anambra State Police Command has arrested 18 suspected members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra MASSOB for hoisting the Biafran flag.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka, confirmed the arrest, saying there is only one Republic in the country.
He said the members were disrupting the peace of the people by hoisting the flag.
He said there could not be two flags in Nigeria, adding that the Police will never fold their hands and allow anarchy to reign in the state.
MASSOB’s National Director of Information, Comrade Uchenna Madu said the movement would not be intimidated by Police.
He said the hoisting of the flag was an annual event of MASSOB.
He said the essence of hoisting the flag during the yuletide was to rekindle the struggle in the minds of the Igbo in the Diaspora, adding that it was meant to remind them that MASSOB is committed to the realisation of the sovereign state of Biafra .
He said it was unfortunate that the Police arrested some members of the Movement at Awka during the exercise, stressing that in other parts of the Southeast it was successful.
At Onitsha , the commercial nerve centre of the state, members of MASSOB hoisted the Biafran flags in major streets on Christmas day.
