Kidnappers release businessman after collecting N2m
Kidnappers of Chief Cyril Okonkwo, an Aba based business man, have reportedly released him after collecting a rnsome of N2m from him.
It would be recalled that Chief Okonkwo was kidnapped at Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area, Anambra State few minutes after having a security meeting with the police in Nnewi.
Prior to his release at midnight in Osumenyi, about eight kilometers to where he was kidnapped in Ukpor, the kidnappers were said to have demanded for N20 million.
Making this disclosure to Nigerian Compass on Saturday yesterday in Nnewi, the family of the victim said that the kidnappers revealed to them that they were given N150 million to assassinate Chief Okonkwo.
Reacting, the son to the victim expressed surprise that his father was kidnapped minutes after having a security meeting with the Police in Nnewi, adding that the police should properly investigate the matter.
He expressed surprise also that it was only in Umudiji Umuohama village that kidnapping has been recorded recently, out of about 15 villages that make up Ukpor Community.
He said that within a space of six months, three people have been kidnapped and named them as one Mr. Matthew, Mrs. Anyacho and the latest Chief Okonkwo.
According to him, investigation should be carried out in the community aimed out fishing them out.
One of the two people allegedly arrested in respect of the case was said to have boasted that kidnapping would continue in the area.
