Three arraigned for stealing six new motorcycles.


Three men who claimed to be unemployed, were on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing six motorcycles valued at N612,000 from a dealer.

The accused persons Adamu Idris 25, Suleman Mohammed 24 and Abdulahi Lawal 25 are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen items.

The prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Orji told the court that the accused conspired and stole the motorcycles from where they were assembled by the owner, Mr Nelson Onyejiaka.

Orji said the second accused, Mohammed, received one of the stolen motorcycles valued at N102,000.

The prosecutor said the accused committed offences punishable under sections 516, 390 (9) and 427 of the Criminal code, Laws of Lagos state.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought before the Magistrate, C. J. Mommodu.

Orji said the alleged offences were committed sometimes in Sept. at Ago Palace way in Isolo, Lagos.

Mommodu granted the accused N300.000 bail with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 7, 2011 for further hearing.

Dismissed soldier arraigned for impersonation

The police on Friday arraigned a dismissed military man, Samuel David, for allegedly impersonating a serving officer with the intent to defraud unwary members of the public.

David, 37, is standing trial before a Yaba Magistrates Court in Lagos on a charge of impersonation with intent to defraud.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Raji Hakeem, told the court that the accused committed the offence between July and November, 2010 at Orile Iganmu in Lagos.

The accused falsely presented himself as a military officer by dressing in full army uniform with the intent to defraud members of the public, `` Hakeem said.

The prosecutor explained that David had been earlier dismissed from service as a result of misconduct.

He said that the offence committed contravened Section 484 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

He, however, did not specify David’s rank before he was dismissed from the force and what fake rank he wore when he was arrested.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Senior Magistrate, A. O. Gbajuwon, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 21, 2011.
