Man, 36, docked for stealing US$89,780

A 36-year-old man was on Monday arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing US$89,780 (about N13.9 million).

Benjamin Ibekwe is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Henry Obiazi, told the court that the accused and others at large on Oct. 18 at No. 10 Balogun Str., Lagos , conspired and stole US$89,780 belonging to one Godson Emeka.

The prosecutor said the accused committed an offence which contravened Section 390(9) and Section 516 of the criminal code law of Lagos State .

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, Olumide Fusika, granted the accused N1 million bail, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till Feb. 8, 2011 for further hearing.
