The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Friday said that it has established special night squads which would work at night to ensure safety during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
The FRSC Lagos zonal commander, Danjuma Garba said the special night squads would ensure the safety of night travelers on busy roads during the festive season.
Garba said that all the 23 unit commands in Lagos and Ogun State have been deployed to the roads this season.
He said about 40 patrol vans and four ambulances have been deployed while help areas have been established at Ogere, Shagamu, Mowe in case of any emergency.
Garba said there will be zero tolerance for seat belts, speed violation, overloading and drunk driving as there would be breathalyzers to catch drunk drivers.
The FRSC boss also advised commuters to always complete the drivers manifest form for easy identification by their family members in case of any eventuality.

Inculcate road safety tips in children – FRSC boss
Chinwe Iwuoha, a Lagos zonal official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), on Friday called on parents to inculcate road safety awareness in their children in order to have a better generation of highway users.
Iwuoha said at a Christmas party held for children of FRSC staff in Lagos that catching the children young would instill responsible driving habits in them as they grow up.
She said that children with proper road safety awareness would also help in cautioning adults against violating traffic regulations.
Iwuoha, who represented Danjuma Garba, the FRSC Lagos zonal commander at the party, urged children to always use available sidewalks, zebra crossings and pedestrian bridges on the roads.
Earlier, the Lagos State Commander of the FRSC Special Marshal, Toyin Kaduku, said the Christmas party was organized not only for merriment but also as an avenue to teach children how to be safety conscious and become agents of change.
Ifeoma Jonas, chairperson of the Road Safety Officers Wives Association, said the party was organized to appreciate the children as well as teach them one on two things about safety on the road.
The party was jointly hosted by Lagos and Ogun State Commands as well as the FRSC special Marshals.

FRSC arrests 63 persons, impounds 50 vehicles in Yenagoa
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has arrested 63 traffic offenders and impounded 50 vehicles less than 24 hours to Christmas in Yenagoa.
Bayelsa Sector Commander, Haliru Halilu disclosed this in Yenagoa on Friday.
He said the commission had taken measures to prevent or minimise road accidents in the sate during the yuletide.
Halilu said a mobile court had also been established in Yenagoa to bring offenders to instant judgment, noting that defaulters would pay fines according to the gravity of offences committed.
The sector commander warned motorists to avoid over-speeding, over-loading, use of cell phones while driving, but fasten their seat belts always.
He said that the FRSC was facing challenges of inadequate manpower and logistics, but promised to send a patrol team to the Swali market area to ensure safety.
He recalled how the command organised a rally and a walk along the major streets of Yenagoa distributing flyers to motorists and cautioning them to ensure the use of road safety rules.
The sector commander also appealed to the government and Non-Governmental Organisations to provide vehicles to the command, to enable the commission to buy equipment needed for its operations.
