Man, 28, charged with armed robbery.


A 28 year-old-man was on Friday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates Court for allegedly robbing one Mr Friday Ohiomu of N185,000 at gun point.

The accused, Gideon Moses, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery before Magistrate C.J. Mommodu.

The prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Orji, told the court that the accused and others now at large, while armed with pistols and other dangerous weapons traced Ohiomu to a commercial bank and robbed him of the said amount.

Orji said that the accused committed offences punishable under Sections 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State and 1 (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of the Federation.

He added that the offences were committed on Dec. 10 in front of Skye Bank, Akowonjo, Lagos.

Moses, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In her ruling, the magistrate ordered that the accused be remanded in custody pending when the court would get legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

She adjourned the case till Jan. 21, 2011 for mention.

Man, 39, in court for stripping woman

For allegedly beating and stripping a woman, a 39-year-old man was on Friday arraigned for assault.

The accused, Rotimi Olomo, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy, indecent assault and conspiracy at an Ikeja Magistrates Court.

The prosecutor, Insp. Augustine Orji, told the court that the accused and others now at large conspired and whilst armed with broken bottles and other dangerous weapons, assaulted one Omobolanle Ajagbe.

He said the accused had approached Ajagbe for an undisclosed favour which was turned down and as a way of getting back at her, he beat her up, tore her dress and stripped her.

The prosecutor said the accused and his gang conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace.

He said the alleged offences were committed on Dec. 15, Oluwole Estate in Ikeja.

The prosecutor said Olomo committed offences punishable under Sections 516, 249 (d) and 360 of the Criminal code, Laws of Lagos state.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought before the Magistrate, Mrs. C. J. Mommodu

In her ruling, the magistrate granted Olomo N80,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Dec. 29, for further hearing.
