Two friends, Idowu Uwumoroni, 30, and Adesuyi Ajayi, 33, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly forging NNPC delivery notes and waybills to steal 40,000 litres of petrol.
The accused are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, forgery and stealing before Magistrate A.F.O. Botokun.
Their other suspected accomplice, Alex Ozurumba, according to the prosecutor, is at large.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Francis Igbinosa, told the court that the defendants conspired and forged the delivery notes and waybills of NNPC and Capital Oil and Gas to lift 40,000 litres of petrol from NNPC depot.
Igbinosa put the cost of the stolen fuel at N2.6 million.
He said the defendants knew that the documents used in executing the deal was forged.
The prosecutor said the offences were contrary to and punishable under Sections 516, 465 and 390 (5) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
In her ruling, Botokun granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Dec. 21 for further hearing.
