An automobile engineer, Segun Onifade, accused of unlawful possession of firearms, was on Wednesday taken before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, presided over by Magistrate O.O. Olatunji.
Onifade, 40, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and possession of firearms.
The prosecutor, ASP Innocent Effiong, told the court that the accused had in his possession a pistol with five cartridges.
He said the pistol was not duly licensed by the Inspector- General of Police.
Effiong said the offence, which was committed on Sept. 11 on Victoria Island, Lagos, contravened Sections 3 and 6 (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, Laws of the Federation.
The magistrate ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody pending his application for bail.
He adjourned the case till Dec. 3 for further hearing.
