A 29-year-old businessman, Ali Mohammed was on Wednesday arraigned at a Somolu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for alleged impersonation.
Mohammed, who is facing a three-count charge of impersonation and assault, is said to have impersonated a Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army.
The prosecutor, Insp. A. Adegoke, told Magistrate Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 23 at Bajulaiye area of Somolu in Lagos.
Adegoke said the accused assaulted one Mr William Vandu, a policeman attached to Alade Police Station, Somolu.
According to the prosecutor, when Mohammed was arrested at about 2 a.m., he told the police that he was a Lieutenant in Nigerian Army and that he was free to move at anytime.
He said the alleged offence contravened Sections 109, Cap.17 and 356 Cap.17of the Criminal Code of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Osunsanmi granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Jan. 17, 2011 for further hearing.
