The police on Friday arraigned two robbery suspects for allegedly robbing two men of their cars and other valuables, worth millions of naira.
The accused, Abiodun Ogunlade and Adesina Olaitan, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery at an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.
The Magistrate, O. O. Olatunji, who did not take the pleas of the accused, ordered that they be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons pending when the court would get legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Police Prosecutor, Cpl. Isaac Aminu, told the court that the accused on March 21 robbed Akinlonu Olatoye, a clearing agent, of his Toyota Camry, worth N1. 4million.
Aminu said the men also robbed their victim of his international passport and jewellery, worth N500,000.
He said on Aug. 14, the men armed with pistols and other dangerous weapons attacked Mr Arawusi Vincent, a businessman, and dispossessed him of his vehicle and other valuables.
Vincent was robbed of his Toyota Camry Saloon car with Reg. No. LAGOS BQ 923 BDG, worth N1 million, along with other valuables worth N400,000, `` Aminu said.
The prosecutor said the robberies were committed on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and at the Cele Bus-Stop on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
The accused were arrested at their hideouts at Asipa in Ayobo- Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos.
The prosecutor said when arrested, the police recovered a Toyota Camry with registration no LAGOS DQ 390 LAD and two pistols with 12 live cartridges.
He said the offences contravened Section 5 b of the Robbery and Firearms Act, Laws of the Federation.
Olatunji adjourned the case till Jan. 5, 2011 for further hearing.
