A teenager, who was docked on Tuesday in Lagos for allegedly stealing a cell phone valued at N40,000, has been granted bail in the sum of N100,000.
Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi of the Shomolu Magistrate’s Court also ordered the accused, 19-year-old Seun Atanda, to produce two sureties in like sum.
Atanda, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Insp. A. Adegoke, told the court that accused picked the bag of one Mrs Kehinde Jaiyeola Adegoke, the complainant.
He further told the court that on discovering the accused had picked her phone from the bag, the complainant immediately raised the alarm which attracted the attention of a police patrol team.
According to Adegoke, the offence which was committed on Dec. 9 at a refuse dump site in Somolu, Lagos, contravenes Section 390(9) Criminal Codes, Laws of Lagos State.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case till Jan. 12, 2011 for further hearing.
