The police on Tuesday in Lagos arraigned a cart pusher, Omotunde Ayadi, for allegedly stealing N12,500 from a man and injuring him in the process.
Ayadi is standing trial before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on charges of conspiracy, stealing and causing grievous bodily harm to one Onyebuchi Chukwu.
The prosecutor, Insp. Emmanuel Essien, told the court that the accused, with another still at large on Dec.17 attacked Chukwu with cutlasses and dispossessed him of the said amount.
Essien alleged that the men struck Chukwu on the head and leg with the cutlass causing him grievous injuries.
He said that the alleged offence was committed at about 9 p.m. on Ayetoro Road, Yaba, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 335, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaya, granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan.12, 2011.
