A worker in a pharmaceutical company, David Nwafor, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for alleged fraud and stealing of products worth over N4.6 million from his employers.
Nwafor is facing a one-count charge of stealing before the Magistrate, A.O. Komolafe.
The accused, however, plead not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Eranus Nnamonu, told the court that the accused collected 100 cartons of Esavite Gel cream, valued at N4.6 million from Esapharma Nig. Ltd.
Nnamonu said Nwafor collected the goods from his employers, under the pretext of delivering them to the Onitsha branch of the company.
He said after collecting the goods, the accused converted it to his own use and failed to refund the proceeds to his employers.
The prosecutor said the offence was committed between March 2004 and Aug. 2010, at Gnekk Plaza, Balogun Market and the International Trade Fair Complex, Ojo in Lagos.
Nnamonu said the offence contravened Section 390 (6) (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Komolafe granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Dec. 20 for further hearing.
