Twelve suspected armed robbers were on Wednesday charged before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly robbing seven persons of valuables worth N155,000 and two motorcycles.
The suspected robbers are Ojo Ramoni, 30; Owolabi Shakiru, 45; Moruf Iyiade, 22; Amidu Sule, 23; Semiu Idris, 27; Taiwo Idowu, 30; and Anthony Abanum, 20.
Other are Jimoh Sule, 20; Ayotunde Gbadebo, 25; Idowu Owolabi, 26; Anekan Akpan, 25; and Kayode Idowu, 39.
The accused are standing trial on a 10-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of fire arms as well as inflicting injuries on their victims.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 23, at No. 12, Coker St., Mushin in Lagos where they robbed several persons.
Ekundayo explained that the gang robbed Rosemary Aka of N10,000 and inflicted injury on her and also dispossessed Shakiru Sanni and Ibrahim Bello of their motorcycles valued at N80,000 and N65,000 respectively .
He said the suspected robbers also attacked Owolabi Nathan and Olayinka David, between 2008 and 2010 at their Mushin residents.
Olawale Oludayo and Olaleken Banjoko were also attacked between Feb. 9 and Dec. 20, 2009 at their Mushin residents respectively,the prosecutor told the court.
Ekundayo said the accused and others still at large, armed with locally made guns and cutlasses, also carted away property of yet to be ascertained value.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 516 of the Criminal Code and 1(2) (a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
The court, however, did not take the plea of the accused.
The Magistrate, H. O. Omisore, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
Omisore adjourned the case till Oct. 20.
