The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned three persons for alleged fraud and stealing N1.3 million.
Ahmed Momoh, 39, Ejike Valentine, 38, and Emeka Nwafor, 37, are standing trial before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, D.S.P Innocent Effiong told the court that the accused on Aug. 20, allegedly obtained under false pretence the sum of N1.3 million from Mrs Peace Ugwu.
Effiong explained that the accused allegedly deceived their victim to part with the amount on the pretext of supplying her jewelry.
He said the representation was made knowing it to be false and with the intention of deceiving Ugwu.
Effiong said the alleged offences were committed at Abule Era, Ijanikin in Lagos.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 516, 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Chief Magistrate, Philip Ojo granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ojo adjourned the case till Oct. 10 for further hearing.
