Economic activities at the Ajegunle area of Lagos were paralysed on Thursday when some traders protested alleged incessant raid by the Nigerian Copyright Commission.
The traders under the aegis of the Ajegunle Bibles and Book Dealer Association marched to the Ajeromi/Ifelodun Local Government Council headquarters during the protest.
The traders alleged that security operatives attached to the Commission in Lagos were breaking into their shops and warehouses at night in the guise of raiding them for alleged piracy
They demanded an immediate stop to the alleged burglary.
The protesters carried placards, some of which read Enough is enough’’ NCC stop stealing our goods in the name of raiding” ” If you continue with your raid, your are denying us of our livelihood”.
The Financial Secretary of the association, Emmanuel Nwabu said they are a registered association; all of us have papers that allow us to sell what we are selling.
He said that efforts by the association to prevail on the Commission headquarters in Abuja to stop the alleged burglary were fruitless.
He claimed that the traders had lost millions to the alleged burglary because this is the season when we sell books.
The chairman of the council, Kamal Bayewu, commended the traders for being peaceful and promised to investigate the matter.
