Man, 38, arraigned for allegedly detaining businessman

For allegedly detaining a man in his house, a 38-year-old Chijioke Mejesi was on Wednesday charged before a Surulere Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

The accused, who is facing a two-count charge of unlawful detention and malicious damage, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution said Mejesi went to Francis Oyewole’s house at Surulere and locked him up after an argument over a business transaction.

Sgt. Idowu Onime said that the accused committed the offence on July 25 at 90, Falolu St., Surulere, an offence which contravened Sections 365 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The accused went to Oyewole’s house and unlawfully locked him up against his will,’’ he told the court.

Onime alleged that the accused also maliciously damaged Oyewole’s generator.

The Magistrate, Mukaila Fadeyi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 and a surety in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 23 for further hearing.
