The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned a landlady, Elizabeth Johnson, charged with breaking into the shop of her tenant and stealing mobile telephone handsets valued at N548,000.
Johnson, 40, and her alleged accomplice, Gabriel Emeka, 28, are standing trial before an Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on charges of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ayorinde Ezekiel told the court that the accused on June 30 broke into the store of Mr Chima Nwaije, at Westminster Warehouse, Apapa, Lagos and stole the items.
Ezekiel explained that Emeka, the alleged accomplice of the landlady shared the shop with Nwaije.
He said when the police interrogated the landlady during investigation, she vehemently absolved Emeka of complicity.
The prosecutor said that the alleged offence contravened Sections 390 (9), 411 (B) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, M.O. Olajunwo granted each accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till Nov. 17, for further hearing.
