One Stephen Uba was on Wednesday charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrate's Court in Lagos for allegedly pushing a bus conductor out of a moving vehicle and unto death.
Uba, 37, is standing trial on a one-count charge of unlawfully causing the death of the conductor, Chika Nna, on July 2, at Barracks Bus Stop, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
The prosecuting counsel, Okoronkwo Okorie, told the court that the accused and his wife were passengers in an Ojo-Okokomaiko bus when the incident occurred.
Okorie said a passenger had raised alarm that a robber was in the bus and that this made the passengers to scramble for safety.
He explained that as the passengers were rushing out of the moving vehicle, the accused pushed the conductor, who was by the door of the bus, to allow him jump out.
The prosecutor said Nna fell off the moving bus and was hit by another vehicle, killing him.
Okorie added that the offence contravened Section 325 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State and was punishable with life imprisonment.
Uba, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Akintunde Isaacs, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till Oct. 8 for further hearing.
