Lagos Internal Revenue Service on Tuesday sealed up a section of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria office in Lagos over alleged tax evasion amounting to N108.5 million.
Only the administrative and marketing offices were affected, while the broadcasting section and other areas remained open.
Lagos State officials accused the Organisation of not remitting taxes to Lagos Internal Revenue Service from 2005 to 2008.
Afolashade Afolayan, Assistant Legal Adviser, said several notices had been served the organisation to intimate it of the closure but it failed to pay up or reconcile its accounts.
She advised all stakeholders in the tax system to live up to their responsibilities as required by the law toward entrenching a strong tax system in the state.
Afolayan said the closure was in accordance with the law and denied allegations that the agency was not giving defaulting companies sufficient notice or none at all.
Afolayan said Lagos Internal Revenue Service had gone beyond serving all the required notices before imposing sanctions on the tax defaulters as prescribed by the law.
Enegedon Emmanuel, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria Assistant Director, Administration, said they received letters from the agency but explained that only the Abuja headquarters office could take a decision on it.
He pleaded with the team to wait till they heard from Abuja.
