The Federal Road Safety Corps on Friday in Lagos warned that articulated vehicles and trailers with loaded containers that are not properly latched would henceforth be impounded.
The Federal Road Safety Corps would no longer allow owners of such articulated vehicles to go scot-free.
Its Zonal Commanding Officer for Ogun and Lagos States, Danjuma Garba said
defaulting companies and transporters whose vehicles are impounded will be prosecuted in court in accordance with the provisions of FRSC Act and the National Road Traffic Regulations.
Garba directed owners of articulated vehicles and trailers carrying containers to latch them properly or risk the impoundment of their vehicles.
He further reminded all drivers of articulated vehicles, tankers, trailers and other motorists to always ensure that their vehicles were well maintained.
The FRSC boss also advised drivers to keep off drugs and alcoholic drinks to avoid fatigue.
Motorists must also observe all traffic regulations, as well as specified speed limit, in built-up areas, Garba said.
According to him, the maximum speed limit for trailers and tankers is 45 km in built-up areas and 60 km on expressways, while commercial vehicles have speed limits of 50 km and 90 km, respectively.
Commercial motorcycles have a speed limit of 50 km while private cars are limited to 50 km in built up areas and 100 km on expressways.
He urged local governments in Lagos and Ogun to ban the sale and consumption of alcohol, illicit drugs and intoxicants in all motor parks.
Having alcohol and intoxicants at the beck-and-call of drivers in motor parks goes contrary with FRSC standardisation scheme of ensuring safer roads and fuller lives, said the road safety boss.
