For allegedly having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl, a trader, Abubakar Samuel, was on Wednesday charged before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Samuel, 27, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and rape.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor for some time before his arrest on Sept. 12.
Emuerhi told the court that the minor often visited Samuel when she was sent on errand by her parents.
He explained that the parents got to know about the relationship and went to the venue of the tryst at No. 36, St. Finbarrs Road, Akoka in Bariga, Lagos.
The prosecutor said the troubled parents were, however, stopped by two friends of Samuel from gaining access into his room while the minor was allegedly in bed with the accused.
Emuerhi said that the offence contravened Sections 218 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Salamah Matepo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Matepo adjourned the case till Oct. 4, for further hearing.
