A 36-year-old man, Patrick Agbodobiri, was on Thursday charged before an Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrate's Court in Lagos with alleged fraud and stealing N726,000.
Agbodobiri, who is standing trial on a two- count charge of fraud and stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Innocent Effiong told the court that the accused on Aug. 22, allegedly obtained under false pretence the sum of N726, 000 from one Umeh Nichodemus.
Effiong explained that the accused deceived the victim to part with the money on the pretext of purchasing some company shares for him.
He said the alleged offences were committed at Masha, Surulere in Lagos.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The Chief Magistrate, Philip Ojo granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ojo adjourned the case till Oct. 18 for further hearing
