A 20-year-old unemployed man, Matthew Lawrence, on Tuesday appeared before an Apapa Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing two sacks of Ogbono seed, valued at N150,000.
Also charged with him is Henry Onwumechili of No 5, Rotimi Crescent, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos, for allegedly receiving the stolen commodity.
The prosecutor, Sgt. John Iberedem, told the court that Lawrence on Aug. 24 at John Close, Ajegunle, Lagos, broke into Mr Isaac Edougha’s house and stole the produce.
Iberedem said Onwumechili, the receiver of the item, knew that the commodity was stolen before he received it to re-sell to the public.
He said the accused and his accomplice had breached Sections 390 (9), 411 (1) and 427 of Criminal Code, Cap. 17. Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the three count-charge of house breaking, stealing and receiving the stolen produce.
The Chief Magistrate, O. O. Oshin, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned hearing till Sept. 22.
