A 30-year-old man, Emeka Mba, suspected of stealing 1,400 US dollars (N210,000), on Thursday appeared before an Apapa Chief Magistrate’s court in Lagos.
Mba, who is standing trial on a one-count charge of stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu told the court that Mba stole the money, property of Mr Francis Efeocoka of No. 7B Oduduwa Road, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, on Aug. 17.
Inedu said the defendant, who was working for Efeocoka, thereafter absconded.
He said the offence was contrary to Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. C17, Vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State 2003.
Amos Adeyemi, the Chief Magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned further hearing till Sept. 8.
