The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control says it is investigating the side effects of a certain drug used for diabetes treatment in the country.
Deputy Director in the agency, Adeline Osakwe said on Thursday that further investigation was based on the restriction placed on the use of the drug in some countries.
According to her, a meeting had been scheduled between NAFDAC and representatives of the product in Nigeria.
Osake stated that the agency would not hesitate to ban the drug if the side effects outweighed its advantages.
The side effects of the drug include upper respiratory track infection, head-ache, back pain, hyper and hypo glacemia , fatigue, and diarrhea.
