Court grants armed robbery suspect N200,000 bail

An Apapa Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of N200,000 to a 20-year-old man, Saviour Peter, charged with attempting to snatch a bus at gunpoint.

Chief Magistrate Oluyemisi Adelaja granted the accused bail after he pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

Adelaja ordered Peter to provide two sureties as part of the condition for the bail.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ingobo Emby, said Peter conspired with another person still at large and attempted to snatch an unregistered Volkswagen bus on July 31 at about 5 a.m. at the Mile 2 Bus Stop in Lagos.

Emby said the vehicle belonged to one Godwin Akpan.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused was overpowered by Akpan who called in the police.

He said the alleged offence breached Sections 403 (a) and 403 (2a) of the Criminal Code of Lagos State.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count-charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

The case has been adjourned till Sept. 15 for further hearing.
