Lagos developer faces N10m fraud charge

A 38-year-old estate developer, Rasheed Ajayi, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding people of N10 million.

Ajayi, who is facing an 84-count charge of fraud and stealing, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution said the accused, along with others still at large, collected N10 million from 42 persons under the pretext of leasing out shops and residential apartments to them on completion.

Insp. Barth Nwokenye alleged that the accused defrauded Messrs Jonathan Chime, Tayo Arogunde, Segun Oloyode, Newman Ibe, and Pastor Blessing Akatapo at various times.

He said the offences, which were committed between March 2 and April 1 in Ajegunle-Apapa, contravened Sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.

The Magistrate, T. A. Elias granted the accused bail in the sum of N8 million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Sept. 15 for further hearing.
