The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned three pastors for allegedly defrauding a business woman of the sum of N4.9million.
The accused are Bernard Alfred, 38, Chinedu Nsekwesi, 42 and George Alfred, 36.
The men are standing trial before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Eshiet Eshiet, told the court that the offence was committed in April 2008 at Lekki, Lagos.
Eshiet said Nsekwesi and George allegedly conned Mrs Chioma Adeoye-- the business woman-- to believe that they could get buyers for her goods that had just arrived at the port.
According to him, the duo introduced Bernard to Adeoye as an associate who could help sell her wares.
He said the duo, with the assistance of Bernard, later broke into her warehouse and allegedly carted away 200 cartons of universal chargers and memory cards valued at N4.9 million.
Eshiet said the offence contravened Sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Oyindamola Ogala, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ogala adjourned the case till Oct. 27, for further hearing.
